What is missing – is a global shipping event in Asia
Why Hong Kong? | Maximise your presence
maritimemarketing is pleased to announce the creation of Shipping Hong Kong which will be taking place from 27th Feb – 2nd March, 2012
The Concept:
Shipping Hong Kong – is a concept born of necessity and a natural consequence of the growth and influence of Asia as a region, in the world of international shipping.
Last year, for the first time, over 51percent of the global merchant fleet was said to be controlled by Asian shipowners.
Over past decades, shipyards in China, South Korea and Japan alone, have grown to account for the building of over 80percent of commercial ships in the global fleet; with China having, over the past few years, emerged as No1 in the shipbuilding stakes.
Filipino seafarers with some 300,000 crews on ocean going ships, plus Indian, Chinese and other Asian nationalities form the majority seafarers that crew the global fleet.
What is missing – is a global shipping event in Asia.
An event that will showcase Asia’s shipping community and all it has to offer to the world and in turn, bring the international shipping community to Asia.
Shipping Hong Kong – is aiming to fill this gap – a 5 day event that will showcase the industry, from Asia’s point of view. We will focus on the industry’s challenges and key issues, bringing you conferences, forums, meetings and a 3 day exhibition in the space of 5 fully business oriented days.
Shipping Hong Kong will be a commercially driven enterprise, aiming for business, not just show. It will be about “deal flow” and networking – not only market trends and forecasts, but more on how these aspects can be used to improve your day-to-day business.
Check out Facebook Fan page for regular and continuous updates and participating organisations – the inaugural Shipping Hong Kong is set for the week commencing February 27 – March 2, 2012.
This is not a small venture and we are also seeking assistance for the international promotion of Shipping Hong Kong from industry bodies, associations and the Hong Kong Government.
The event will be organised by maritimemarketing – a division of M|T||I |Network (Asia), based in Hong Kong for the past 20+ years, whose principals have been actively involved in the maritime industry as well as in corporate communications, promotions and maritime events; from insurance and surveying conferences to maritime financial conferences.
maritimemarketing will bring the various events to Hong Kong, co-ordinate timing, venues and all networking events (with the co-operation of the individual event organizers) and promote an atmosphere of cross-fertilization amongst all the participating conferences, forums, meetings and the industry exhibition.
We will produce a program for the whole week and create opportunities to maximize the interaction between all participating groups for this first ever Shipping Hong Kong – 2012.
Why Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is still the centre of shipping in Asia. The shipowners from Japan to South Korea to China and Hong Kong control the major fleets; China, South Korea and Japan build over 80% of global newbuildings, while the seafarers of the Philippines, India and China dominate the crewing industry.
In addition, Hong Kong has been the centre of Asian shipping from its very inception in the late 19th Century – and most importantly it has always been based on its independence and been commercially driven. Hong Kong is about business and the shipping business has always been instrumental in the growth and development of Hong Kong as a major trading centre, the bridge between China, the Far East and the rest of the World.
What better place to create a showcase for all that Asian shipping has to offer?
